Solving Smelly Drains
Published on:One of our longest serving customers from Oxford University, Jesus College, came to us with a problem with a drain. We knew the perfect product for the job that happens to be certified by ECOCERT, making it an eco friendly solution.
The Problem
The college opened a vast new building in recent years, creating incredible work and social spaces. However one area was suffering from sewer smells.
The Prayer Room has an en suite washroom with a trap in the floor (the room is essentially a wet room). The trap would emit an unpleasant odour that no amount of air fragrancing could mask.
This issue resulted in the Prayer Room being avoided.
The Solution
We knew that we needed to solve the issue at source, or as close to it as possible. Speaking to our friends at BioVate, who have extensive experience in the Catering Industry and helping keep drains maintained, we were advised to use their Odour Eliminator.
The product contains microbes that eat the bacteria creating the malodours and works its way down the drain system. It is 100% biodegradable so is safe to use with the UK waterways and with septic tanks,
We also installed the P-Wave OurFresh-e which has created a pleasant ambiance in the Prayer Room.
The Method
The BioVate Odour Eliminator was dosed on a daily basis in the trap using a pelican pump. Two pumps of a 30ml dose was administered per day for a week. This was reduced to a single pump once the smell had subsided.
We have recommended it is dosed twice per week to maintain the cleanliness of the trap.
Other Applications
This product and methodology can be used for helping to eliminate uric crystals (the cause of urine smells) in washrooms where urinals are not being treated properly.
